After the European Open, tournament director Andy Hancock took a moment to look back on the 2017 edition. Hancock is very satisfied and looking forward to the future.

"Tsonga is a great winner to have on the honours list. Overall, I'm very pleased with the strong playing field we had. We've seen fantastic and exciting matches." Last year, the tournament director gave the European Open a 6.5 /10, this year he says 8/10. "The tournament has made a lot of progress. This year there were 20,500 spectators, a 25% increase over last year. In the VIP section we saw a 50% improvement, but this is the 2nd edition and we only started this project 18 months ago. I am therefore very pleased with the results achieved, "said Hancock, who is very ambitious for 2018.

"We are pretty much receiving unanimous responses from the ATP and players, and I hope we can eventually become the best ATP 250 tournament in the world. That's our ambition."

Of course, according to Hancock, there is still room for improvement. "We want to improve the fan experience, but due to performances at the Sportpaleis, we organised the event at the Lotto Arena this year. The Lotto Arena is suitable for tennis matches, but it is limited in terms of off-court entertainment. There is little room for growth in that aspect. We would also like to expand the catering options next year, but first we need to consult with all parties involved, "said Hancock.
