Nick Kyrgios added to the line up of the European Open!

Good news just keeps coming for the fans of the European Open. After yesterday’s tournament win for David Goffin in Shenzen, the organisation announces the entry of Nick Kyrgios into the draw. The Australian super talent receives a wildcard and will be one of the eye-catchers together with Goffin at the European Open, which takes place from 15 until 22 October in the Lotto Arena in Antwerp, the only ATP World Tour tournament in Belgium.
“We are delighted to be able to announce a player of Kyrgios’ caliber”, says tournament director Andy Hancock. “The Australian is one of the most dynamic and imaginative young players on the ATP Tour and his flamboyant playing style always brings an element of spectacle. The public are sure to be entertained!”
Kyrgios is 22 years old and already reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open and Wimbledon in his young career and has 3 ATP-tournament wins under his belt. At this moment he is number 19 in the world rankings, but friends and foes alike have agreed that he has grown into a solid top 10-player. Last month Kyrgios played against David Goffin and Steve Darcis in the semi finals of the Davis Cup. The Australian lost to Goffin and won in 5 sets against Darcis.
At the European Open another encounter against Goffin or Darcis is highly likely, or against Ruben Bemelmans, the third member of the Davis Cup team who will also be making his way to the Lotto Arena. Goffin is in great form. On Sunday the Belgian number 1 captured the third ATP-title of his career in the Chinese Shenzen.
Besides Kyrgios, Goffin, Darcis and Bemelmans there are numerous other interesting names on the player list of the European Open. Think of French title defender Richard Gasquet, his fellow countryman Gaël Monfils, the experienced Spaniard David Ferrer or the Canadian rising star Denis Shapovalov. “This is an incredible playing field and could actually be the most impressive playing field at an ATP World Tour 250 series this year”, says Andy Hancock.
And it will even get more impressive, as the organisation can hand out one more wildcard. Who the lucky recipient of this wildcard will be will be announced shortly before the tournament.
